Q. What are the requirements to become a mammography technologist?

A. In short, a technologist must be accredited by this Department, have 40 documented hours of mammography training, and perform 25 mammography examinations under the supervision of a qualified technologist. See also Section 370.70(b).

Q. What's this fee for and why do I have to pay it?

A. Mammography facilities in Illinois are billed $750 annually, each July for certification. This fee covers our costs for certifying and inspecting each facility. In addition, FDA bills facilities $509 for each inspection. Note that the FDA fees paid by facilities in non-certifying states are $1,749 per inspection (plus an additional amount for multiple machines).
